Richard, (posted here in case it is of interest to others)
My company is required to place source code and tools into escrow for a
customer who has bought more than 20,000 units from us, each running icc-avr
based software. We will be using Iron Mountain as the escrow agent. In the
escrow package, I would like to place instructions on how to build the
project of course, but I also need to list the sources for the required
tools. In this case, icc-avr 6.21b.
How would the recipient of the escrow material obtain this from you? Would
they buy a license for the current version and then beg for a copy of the
earlier version or can I place a copy, without the license file on the
CD-ROM. That way they will see the tool but will not be able to use it.
Presumably they would then call you for a license.
Using the current product is not an option because the source must compile
and produce the exact same object file (and CRC) as the deployed devices.
What is your preference?
Thanks.
Steve
